About the Artist
Ilene Rubin
I am a lover of beauty and I love to paint.
My mediums of choice are Acrylic, Pastel, Watercolor, Oil and Pencil/Charcoal. I am inspired by light and color, the works of the Masters and nature. The colors of shadows or a bend in the road can have me running for my paint brushes or pastels. An autumn road or an old barn is what I’m partial to, as well as florals and a moment in time caught with a mother and child. Such beauty makes me want to preserve it and record it. It is my greatest hope that I do these visions and images justice, at least a little bit.
I’ve been painting on and off for many years and in various mediums. I’ve painted clothing, dorm room walls, boots and purses, and home accessories (I still do that). I’ve spent the last 20 years being a mom, working in the corporate world as a sales and inventory forecaster and planner for major retailers.
I am also a writer. I’ve written four novels, 3 stories for children, a screenplay and was a guest columnest for a local newspaper doing community interest interviews of interesting people.
Six years ago, while recooperating from surgery, my husband gave me a gift; a set of paints and brushes. I returned to my love of painting, started taking lessons and haven’t looked back. I’ve been in many member shows and a juried show in Boulder, Colorado.
I grew up in West Oak Lane and Elkins Park, lived in Thousand Oaks, California for 13 years and Boulder, Colorado for three years. We moved to Doylestown in 2008 and I absolutely love Bucks County! I enjoy the art community here and the people I’ve met all over the country. I still have lots to learn and look forward to becoming part of the art community here.
